Icons.

I need to customize the icons some more. They need to coordinaaate and maaaatch lol. What are the icons supposed to be used for anywho? I’ve just been using them to organize what kind of posts I’m making.

Well I know back in the day, we used them for different topics (like, one for cooking, one for weather, one for work, etc) or for specific fandom stuff (one for Fallout, a whole lot for Sims, and so on, which was what I had) or reactions/emotions (lol, surprise, sad).

Back on LJ I used to spend ages making different icons for things and now I just can't be arsed. You all get bunnies regardless.

Yeah, I remember having all the different icons, and when I moved to PF I felt like "meh I want icons!" and now, eh. I've got the ones that were in DW when I left and that's good enough.

Honestly, it's not even the making them that I'm being lazy about because that sounds like fun. I just know that I would forget to do the extra clicks to change them when I post. Maybe I will put little hats on the rabbits for special occasions.

Icons are often uesd as another layer of communication, like to indicate a mood/attitude or to categorize the topic, esp in comments. Like how tumblr people tend to use tags for bonus communication? But pictorial.

People on DW (and LJ before it) use them in a variety of the usual ways -- for identification or for, as you mentioned, highlighting what kind of post it is. However as most people have quite a few icon slots and they can be chosen for comments as well as posts, there is also a history of using them to signify emotions, reactions, identification, etc. as well. I did a presentation on this at one time.

The short answer is, use them however you want 😉

I used to love having multiple icons on LJ back in the day..but now, I cannot commit lol. Just patiently waiting for PF to come back and feeling somewhat empty here on DW :x

i like using them as moods for my posts. bokuto lends himself to it so well :') dw is the only site i'm purely bokuto and he fits like, every post i make
