My default reaction to reading a post on here is wanting to like it, but it looks like there’s no option for doing so here. I guess that pushes people to actually comment on posts here? I really wish I could like a post though bc that way at least if I don’t have something to say I can at least let OP know that I read their post. *shrug* I guess I’ll just do my best to interact via comments.

You can always post a comment saying "I agree". Or, maybe, an emoticon?

Agree with the emoticon idea, or, just as on AO3 when people have already left kudos you can always leave a written like such as "Kudos!"

I also miss the like feature here. One thing I've done for my own posts is to utilize the polling feature as a kudos box, but the polls are part of a paid account.

The explanations I'm most often given for no "likes" on DW is that it encourages commenting and discourages popularity contest behavior. And, that's nice, but having the ability to "like" or give kudos doesn't actually seem to have much to do with how much people comment, and I'm at a loss as to what these popularity contests are or where they're happening. The inability to "like" on DW is the number one reason why I ended up moving entirely to PF.

I miss them a lot too. Am generally low spoons, and worrying I'll bungle actual words (whether commenting on someone else's post or replying to someone's comments on mine) is a bandwidth killer when all I really want to express is "solidarity!"
